The Reverend Derrick B. Wells was installed as Senior Minister on Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011.
Reverend Derrick B. Wells loves God and the people of God. His mission is to fulfill his divine purpose to serve humanity, live a life rooted in love, and aid others in their journey to live from the Divine self. His skillful storytelling, propensity to engage his audience, and ability to make complex theological concepts practical set him apart in the arena of accomplished teachers and preachers.
Reverend Derrick Wells was ordained by The Reverend Dr. Johnnie Colemon, and prior to becoming Senior Minister served in earnest in many leadership roles including Staff Minister, Christ Universal Temple; Vice President, Christ Universal Temple Board of Directors; President of the Johnnie Colemon Institute Advisory Committee; instructor, Johnnie Colemon Institute; Minister-Director of L.I.F.E. group; member of the U.F.B.L. Teaching Core; member, P.O.T. planning committee; C.U.T. Sunday School Teacher; and C.U.T. Male Mentor.
While employed by the private sector Reverend Wells worked in operations with a national bank which processed trades and transactions in excess of $150 million daily, and served as Consultant for the Midwest Region overseeing major construction projects.
Reverend Wells served brilliantly as an enlisted member in the United States Navy where he received numerous awards and commendations. As a decorated sailor, and due in part to his religious studies abroad, he was chosen to participate as a lay leader for ecumenical services which catered to an array of service members.
A Critical Communication Scholar, Reverend Wells is a member of Lambda Pi Eta Honors Society and the National Communication Association. He has conducted extensive scholarly research and written on topics ranging from transformational leadership to hegemonic structure to organization psychology. Reverend Wells holds a Master of Arts in Communication and Training as well as a BA in Communication (w/Honors) from Governors State University, and a Bachelors of Divinity from Mount Carmel Theological Seminary.
Reverend Wells profoundly believes that Christ Universal Temple is a vibrant center of light within Christian Metaphysics and the New Thought Movement. He is committed to God’s purpose for Christ Universal Temple to teach all people how to live better lives. His visionary initiatives enrich the life of the church family and engage the community in new and sustaining ways. An inspiring leader, he continues to excel in his professional endeavors as a teacher, writer, trainer and speaker.
Reverend Wells is excited about the future of Christ Universal Temple and building upon the legacy of The Rev. Dr. Johnnie Colemon. His motto is “God is not done. The best is yet to come.” Reverend Derrick Wells is married to his wife Sylvia, and they have a daughter, Malika and son, Mikael.
